Last week took us from remembering the lives lost during the terrorist attacks that rocked our nation eighteen years ago (you can read this blog’s take here) to listening 10 candidates tell America that they are serious contenders for the job of a lifetime: to be the next leader of the free world and the 46th President of the United States. But, are these candidates earnestly connecting with voters? Can the Democratic party help America stay true to her ideals in a way that the Trump administration cannot? What do We, The People, want our legacy to be now as we prepare for the most consequential election of the last 40 years?
Welcome to new and returning readers to the Branding24Seven community! This blog is the brainchild of JMStrategy LLC (JMS), a boutique consulting firm that offers strategic solutions to strengthen your brand. Today, this blog is wanting to explore the American brand and analyze the two most pressing issues the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates should address ASAP if they want voters to take their White House bids seriously.
There have been many talks of an illegitimate or stolen presidency in 2016 when We, The People, dutifully elected Donald Trump Jr. according to the laws of our land. Here are the irrefutable facts: President Trump captured over 300 votes to win the electoral college even though Hillary Clinton won the popular one by roughly 2 million votes or about 2 percent. Since a precedent has been set to validate this outcome (remember when Bush won the electoral vote against Gore in the tightly contested 2000 presidential election), why has there been such an avalanche of criticism towards Trump’s rightful place as the 45thPresident of the United States? One may not like him per se, but can we all accept his win and move forward as a nation?!
Here we are, two years later, bracing ourselves for what will most likely be a momentous election in shaping the American brand for the next 40 years from Supreme Court appointments to trading relationships with allies. In voting for President Trump, the American people made it known that they have had enough of the establishment. Indeed, many voters felt that the American Dream has been eluding them for quite some time and blamed it on the political shenanigans of Washington. 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, what do you have to say to the voters who are fed up to see their living conditions erode day after day? Can you explain to them why they are not likely to have the good life their parents enjoyed?
This blog is entering the national debate about what ought to be our political legacy because it believes that America is still the land of opportunities and freedom like no other place in the whole world. If you disagree, leave a comment below and tell us why. Moving forward, 2020 Democratic presidential candidates should spend less time belittling the character of President Trump and put more effort into convincing hard-working U.S. citizens that your policies can improve their lives.
Dear 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, how are the policies that you are championing able to help American families currently struggling to meet routine health needs (e.g., medical, dental, vision, nutrition) and unable to buy a home concretely?
To be clear, this is the plight of too many families that supposedly already belong to the middle-class. That is right, this is happening to U.S. citizens who have worked their whole lives and did their best to plan. But, due to the rising cost of living, overcrowded doctor offices, reneged and/or raided pension funds in the name of restructuring for the sake of bankruptcy, and seemingly fewer resources available to those in need of assistance from time to time, middle-class families are a dying breed and remnants of a bygone era. What a travesty that the American Dream is no longer available to the legitimate children of this great nation: U.S. citizens! What say you, Dear 2020 Democratic presidential candidates?
What are your plans to address the border crisis and reform immigration in a way that does not restrict resources to U.S. citizens?
There is a perception that most Americans hate immigrants. That is such an inflammatory assumption; especially since our nation is the land of immigrants and an incredible melting pot. A more accurate assessment would be that hard-working Americans feel squeezed out of the promised to a better life in their own home. The nerve to be angry! How can you not understand just how angry and betrayed the American people feel, Dear 2020 Democratic presidential candidates?! So rather than judge and be condescending towards this justified stance, voters want to hear how your policies are better alternatives than Trump’s to alleviate such a widespread feeling of alienation.
In a nutshell, what is the real concern? Honestly, it’s the fact that the average American family is not eligible for the very programs U.S. children born of illegal migrants seem to access with ease. For example, a family of 4 considered middle-class, with the privilege of paying $600/month for medical insurance, won’t go to see a doctor as it cost $40 to get into the door and another $50 after insurance payout. But what about prescriptions for medication, braces, and glasses? How can this family afford to stay alive this blog asks you, Dear 2020 Democratic presidential candidates? Why are U.S. citizens paying taxes and receiving almost none of the benefits? Is it acceptable that U.S. children born to illegal migrants have greater access to programs that are not eligible for U.S. children born to middle-class American parents who happen to be making too much money to qualify?
