In case this is your first time visiting, this blog is the brainchild of JMStrategy LLC (JMS), a boutique consulting firm that offers strategic solutions to strengthen your professional and personal brand. Now, let’s go over the steps you must take now to have the best possible year in 2020.
Not too long ago, this blog offered the six months to 2020 game plan to help you focus your energy on the things that you want to achieve next year. So many of you, Dear Readers, flooded the JMS inbox to say that you were struggling with how to manifest your lofty goals concretely. Consequently, this blog is offering a few pointers to help you be more strategic with your time.
PRIORITIZE, PRIORITIZE, PRIORITIZE!
Having a dream is great because it gives you direction. Otherwise, one has the frustrating experience to go through the motion of life without any purpose. How could you possibly feel fulfilled if you let the expectations of other people dictate the kind of life you should be living? No way, Jose!
Beyond dreams, Dear Readers, you need clarity. So, you need to lay down small bricks that constitute the bridge between where you are today and your 2020 goals.
Before reaching for your planner, remember that you only have two hands to pave one brick at a time; meaning you cannot do too many things at once. Therefore, you have to prioritize so that your energy flows where your attention goes.
You cannot wish to lose 100 pounds, spend more time with friends, and learn Italian all at once! You have to make tough choices such as choosing 1) to spend an hour at the gym instead of meeting friends after work for a drink four times a week, or 2) to skip the 3-hour Sunday brunch with your girlfriends and join instead of an Italian meet-up group on Saturday afternoon.
As you see Dear Readers, you are the author of your lives! So, be judicious in the choices you are making as you lay the bricks that will bring you closer to your 2020 goals!
BUILD A WEEKLY ROUTINE
While working with clients, the JMS team has witnessed time and time again that the human brain experiences choice fatigue very quickly even when one is extremely motivated.
To avoid said fatigue and gain even more mental clarity, this blog suggests creating a weekly routine to keep for a while. As school is back in session, this is the perfect time to build a reliable game plan to follow until Christmas break.
Let’s start with establishing the foundational blocks that seldom change: work shifts, class times, afterschool activities, family bonding time, dates with your significant other.

To that end, please include finishing blocks that essentially fulfill the self-care aspect of your weekly routine. While there is a multitude of activities you can do that could fall under self-care, the objective is to find balance and appreciate your journey right this moment.
Journaling, for instance, is a powerful tool to reflect on the road traveled so far. As you reread past reflections, you will see your progress and will be motivated to keep going! If that’s not your cup of tea, consider establishing a ritual that allows you to clear your mind and put life on pause. For some, that would be creating a spa night. For others, that would be meal prepping for the first three days of the week. For others still, it’s about disconnecting from social media and decluttering/cleaning their houses from top to bottom.
Whatever that looks like to you, Dear Readers, please make time to take care of your mental health every week… In the long term, you will see just how even-keeled you are becoming and ready to take on anything that this crazy thing called life will throw at you!
