Welcome to the JMS blog, your hub for actionable crisis management tips to level up your brand.
We are back to answer your branding questions after an unexpected, prolonged hiatus working with executives across the U.S. to assess their strengths/weaknesses and beef up leadership skills. Dear Readers, if it is your first visit, this blog is the brainchild of JMStrategy LLC (JMS), a Philadelphia-based crisis management firm that helps brands in free fall strive again.
In the aftermath of the pandemic, the Great Resignation, and the Quiet Quitting chaos, this blog shares practical insights to enhance your leadership style, team management, and goal-setting skills amid any crisis. Now, without further ado, let’s see how a strategic facelift of your evening routine will help you have the most productive year in 2023.
Why do you need an evening routine checklist?
Dear Readers, are draining work-related thoughts polluting your mind, making it impossible to be at peace? Is the dread of inflation making your life a living hell, as everything is still way too expensive? Or are you desperate to find a new job ASAP, making it impossible to enjoy the holiday festivities? With all these stressors running wild in your mind, Dear Readers, you might need an evening routine checklist to find peace of mind!
Therefore, Dear Readers, this blog insists that you should not waste away evening chunks simply because your minds have checked out for the day. Instead, think of them as the self-care mecca for the peace of mind you need to design the life you want outside work! Consequently, this blog invites you to implement the JMS finishing block framework to help you achieve balance and appreciate your journey thus far every night.
How is an evening routine checklist supposed to help you?
Dear Readers, you’ve asked us to spell out what you’re supposed to do with your evening chunks to achieve balance. Does it mean that you need yet another routine? Yes, in the sense that you want to have a predetermined roadmap loosely formulated beforehand to eliminate decision fatigue.
Let’s revisit JMS client fitness warrior we call Eric and JMS long-time blog reader Tanisha to inspire you to create an evening routine checklist tailor-made to your needs. The ultimate goal of an evening routine is to reinvigorate you as you chase your dreams, no matter what’s going on in the world!
Tanisha’s evening routine:
She knows that she is a lifelong procrastinator! Therefore, she asked the JMS team to create a simple pattern to follow every day of the week. Please note, Dear Readers, that this full-time teacher had a long list of requirements the JMS team had to abide by for her to find real purpose outside of work. She wanted:
1) A good chunk of time dedicated to luxurious activities such as hair & nail appointments every Saturday morning,
2) Church service and 3 pm family dinner with the extended family every Sunday,
3) No cleaning of any sort (except an occasional load of laundry),
4) Mega meal prep session while catching up on her many favorite series every Saturday afternoon,
Here is what the JMS team came up with for her:
As you see, Dear Readers, she had a tall order to fill! Yet, the JMS team made it happen! We even managed to include a weekly planning session on Sunday afternoons. This way, she can figure out her content creation morning schedule and Instacart weekly order so she can meal prep in peace Saturday afternoons.
All in all, the JMS team was able to give her the freedom to indulge in a few guilty pleasures so that she would feel ready to face her much stricter school regimen every week. But what if you cannot squeeze in an evening routine like Eric, the fitness warrior? What can you do?
Eric’s finishing blocks fit neatly into a weekend routine:
Dear Readers, this blog understands that you might be just as short on time as our triathlete hero. With a bedtime set at 10 pm for brutal 6 am workouts Monday through Friday, what kind of evening routine is realistic to cultivate? None, and he is OK with that decision!
Remember that the purpose of having an evening chunk is to create space for finishing blocks which essentially fulfill the self-care aspect of your weekly routine. So, if you cannot do it at night, move all finishing blocks to weekends! Do whatever you need to protect your mental health and avoid burnout, just like Tanisha practices journaling for gratitude purposes to cultivate inner peace!
For Eric, our fitness warrior, it made sense to move his finishing blocks to Saturdays since he must complete a punishing long-distance Sunday morning run. Therefore, on Saturday morning, he rotates between two finishing objectives. He either goes to the shooting range or plays a few rounds of golf for a couple of hours with college buddies. From mid-afternoon onwards, he spends time with his wife. That’s their designated day date while the kids spend a few hours at his mother’s. Also, every Sunday afternoon, he enjoys the last finishing block of spending time with his children without his wife (who is off enjoying her self-care routine with a few good girlfriends). No matter how beat up he feels after his long run, he looks forward to that bonding time. He knows he misses out a lot during the week, so he packs it all in on Sundays.
Final thoughts to create a tailor-made evening routine checklist suitable for your needs.
