Dear Readers, how can your business survive when your industry is experiencing an abrupt shift in consumer preferences? Can your business effectively navigate trade policies without seeing its profits plummet? Should you even care about world events such as what’s fueling riots in Hong Kong or the impeachment proceedings that have rattled the swamp better known as Washington D.C.? As this year is ending, this blog is highlighting pressure points that will continue to impact the U.S. economy moving into 2020. Keep reading to find out what factor businesses should include in strategic plans while adjusting short and mid-term forecasts.
Welcome back Dear Readers and anyone new to this corner of the Internet! As a reminder, this blog is the hub for any of your branding inspiration. In case this is your first time visiting, this blog is the brainchild of JMStrategy LLC (JMS), a boutique consulting firm that devises tailor-made plans of action to render your brand as robust as possible. Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the four takeaways to keep at the forefront of the smart shifts to incorporate in 2020 to grow over the next decade.
WHEN NEW TRENDS DECIMATE YOUR NICHE MARKET…
Dear Readers, wouldn’t it be nice if businesses could anticipate the exact moment when your consumers change their preferences?! The accelerating disruption currently ravaging the dairy and meat industries is keeping many executives up at night! Indeed, Dean Foods filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this fall to fund workers’ pensions due to an unexpected but significant decline in revenue. So, what if the customer base is rejecting cow’s milk and animal products in record numbers? Consumers are entitled to consume whatever their hearts desire!
The real question is why the Dean Foods executive team did not plan to address the growing number of unsatisfied customers who had voiced their dissatisfaction with product offerings over the last three years? Moving forward, Dear Readers, you should plan now for the next industry disruption that is likely to happen in the next decade. If your business does not have the bandwidth for an in-depth study to avoid the same fate of Dean Foods, email us at jms@branding24seven.com to discuss how our Data-Driven Powwows will help evaluate the best channels to prevent fiscal insolvency.
WHEN CHANGES IN TRUMP’S TRADE AGENDA EVICERATE YOUR PROFITS…
In the last retail industry issue, this blog discussed the impact of tariffs on supply chain infrastructures. While the U.S. economy, as a whole, is not yet in a recession, some industries are struggling.
This blog is inviting retailers to rethink their manufacturing and distribution networks moving forward. Indeed, the last thing retailers want is to see the demand for their products decrease due to trade policies that applied an unwelcomed pressure on pricing driving money conscious customers away. Consequently, Dear Readers, the JMS team suggests businesses spend more time aligning core values with alternative sourcing options as strategically as possible to retain efficiency and profitability in 2020.
AS HONG KONG CONTINUES TO FIGHT FOR…
The last six months have been quite explosive in Hong Kong. In June, protestors vociferously opposed an extradition bill that Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam attempted to push through. The intensity of the civil unrest has taken many by surprise. But, is this just an issue of extradition? Or are the Hong Kong citizens violently resisting what they perceive to be an unwanted political interference from Beijing that stubbornly attempts to erode their rights.
To see what used to be known as a key international financial and commercial bastion disintegrate into a war zone is quite sobering! For that reason, this blog is reminding you, Dear Readers, to stop taking for granted our freedom and civil liberties. Progress never happens in a smooth progression. It often requires overcoming bruising battles and some setbacks. In the end, though, isn’t democracy worth it?
Indeed, as U.S. citizens and businesses, we are lucky enough to avoid needing to fight a constant encroachment on our freedoms in a way that Hong Kong citizens seem to be battling from Beijing. Moving forward in 2020, Dear Readers, the JMS team encourages you to keep challenging the status quo in memory of the many who came before us and fought for incredible ideals even if we loathe what’s happening in Washington D.C.!
WHAT IS THE IMPEACHMENT BROUHAHA REALLY ABOUT???
The House impeached President Trump…. Now, what?!!! As a reminder, the first article of impeachment accused Trump of abusing the power of the presidency when he threatened to withhold military aid unless Ukraine publicly denounced that a corruption investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter would be underway. The Democrats believed that by asking a foreign government to investigate a political rival, Trump put his interests ahead of the country.
The second article of impeachment accused Trump of obstruction, stonewalling Congress in the impeachment inquiry. But, now that the House has impeached Trump, why is Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Pelosi stalling? How does she hope to shape the senate trial? Will the senate impeach Trump? Do you believe, Dear Readers, that a two-third (67 votes) of a Republican-led Senate will impeach Trump? How will global markets react?
As the nation prepares for a new presidential election in 2020, this blog will explore what We, The People want our political legacy to be for the next few decades. If 2016 brought a rebuke to the establishment in the personification of a Trump presidency, what will 2020 bring?
There you have it, Dear Readers! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today to read the JMS year-end wrap-up! Which factor will you incorporate your strategic plans for 2020? Did we miss anything? Let us know by email at jms@branding24seven.com or by mail at
