Are night owls doomed to fail since they have a tough time waking up in the morning? Will the early risers be the only ones with the secret sauce for starting the day on the right foot?
While there are no easy answers, Dear Readers, this blog insists that a well-thought-out morning routine can be the impetus for having a productive day. Indeed, by crafting a morning routine that gets you excited to wake up, you’ll look forward to attacking the day and crushing your goals. Dear Readers, this blog believes that your mornings should not be about rushing out of bed to turn on your laptop and start working. Instead, Dear Readers, think of them as propellers to get you closer to achieving your dreams! Consequently, mornings should be the preferred time to work on your most important goal. That way, there is less chance for other things to get in the way.
For example, Dear Readers, let’s say that your primary project in 2023 is to be healthy and lose 50 lbs. How could you use your morning chunks strategically to get what you want? The obvious answer is to build a robust workout schedule to complete in the morning before getting ready for your full-time job rather than sacrifice the evening chunks you usually spend with your family. In this case, Dear Readers, your morning chunks are for building blocks or habits you incorporate into your weekly game plan to improve your health so you can perform better at work which is your ultimate foundational block.
Therefore, your building blocks could look like this:
- Monday is a recovery day with a 60-min yoga/stretch session (thanks perhaps to a punishing long-distance run every Sunday).
- Tuesday and Thursday are your mobility and strength workouts with a personal trainer.
- Wednesday is a recovery workout on a stationary bike.
- Friday is for endurance training in the pool (while dreaming of your rest day on Saturday).
As you can imagine, Dear Readers, workout sessions are the sole focus of morning chunks. For our JMS client, the only way to clock in for the daily staff meeting at 9:30 am was to wake up around 6 am. There is, of course, some flexibility to move workouts around to accommodate cyclical output-driven pressure points such as work trips.
