Yesterday, oil prices were trading above $30 for the first time since mid-March. This is a dash of good news! Especially after hearing that another 3 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, bringing the two-month total to a whopping 36 million!
But, Dear Readers, how are you supposed to move forward? How much longer before you can find a job and pay your bills? The forced shut down of the economy has destroyed many small businesses. Entire industries are on life support thanks to a government bailout no less! What about you, Dear Readers? What are you to do against such a grim outlook?
Fear not! The JMS team is back with its weekly shot of motivation to give you the strength to push through this challenging period. If it’s your first time here, Dear Readers welcome, and thanks for stopping by the JMS blog. FYI, JMS is a consulting firm located in Philadelphia that advises organizations and businesses on how to manage crises with efficiency and expediency. To that end, the JMS team is in the business of designing recovery plans as robust as possible that avoid behavioral and financial paralysis. In other words, Dear Readers, this blog has practical tips to help with your job search amid a global pandemic.
TIP NUMBER ONE: Assess Your Current Situation.
As more and more states continue to relax restrictions, it is only a matter of time before non-essential businesses can resume operations if only on a limited basis. Dear Readers, this means that you have to put to good use your dwindling work-free days! Thankfully, this blog shared a robust game plan to ensure the comeback of a lifetime. Indeed, Dear Readers, this is time to evaluate what you hate and like about the job you’ve lost. This reflection will help you sharpen the focus of your job search and avoid accepting a position that is not the right fit. Once you acknowledge the must-haves, Dear Readers, you are ready for the next step.
TIP NUMBER TWO: Set A Goal.
Dear Readers, do not shortchange yourself simply because the economy might be on the brink of a recession. The coronavirus cannot stop you from having the life of your dreams. At most, it has delayed your plans. However, you have the power to keep your aspirations alive! Consequently, be fearless as you set your goals and go for it! Do not be scared to chase your goals because, as Wayne Gretzky told us:
“You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
TIP NUMBER THREE: Cultivate New Habits.
Now that you know what you truly want, Dear Readers, you want to adopt new habits that will ensure that you won’t miss any shots you are taking! Be strategic with your time to prevent any possibility to feel burned out or discouraged by your job search prospects. You probably need to be creative as well since governors have not yet fully lifted lockdown restrictions. For instance, you may not be able to attend a networking event, but you certainly can connect with recruiters on LinkedIn! You can use your contacts on social media to research an industry you are considering moving into today! Afterward, you can create a to-do list of all the steps you have to take before the end of the week to prepare you for your next interview.
So, Dear Readers, what do you think? Are these tips helpful? What changes are you making to ramp up your job search?
