The global pandemic is crushing your spirits, Dear Readers, and you cannot take it anymore! You are tired of hearing mainstream media stations harping over the possible doomsday scenario that predicts US coronavirus deaths could climb to roughly 300,000 by December 1st, 2020. How can you, Dear Readers, take responsibility for your own life and happiness when the world as you know it is upside down? Is it even fair to expect ourselves to be productive?
Fear not, Dear Readers! The JMS team is back with valuable insights that will inspire you to be fearless in the pursuit of your dreams. If it’s your first time here, Dear Readers welcome, and thanks for stopping by the JMS blog. FYI, JMS is a consulting firm located in Philadelphia that advises people and organizations on how to manage crises with efficiency and expediency. To that end, the JMS team is in the business of designing recovery plans as robust as possible that avoid behavioral and financial paralysis. Therefore, Dear Readers, this blog will help you make sense of these unprecedented times without feeling devoid of motivation and utterly defeated. You got this, Dear Readers, and don’t you ever forget it!
So Dear Readers, the cat is out of the bag. 2020 has been a terrible year that will affect the psyche of the American people for decades to come. But, does that mean that your dreams should go down the toilet as well? Who said so?
Listen up, Dear Readers, this blog is here to tell you that 2020 does not have to mean the end of our lives. Instead, let’s make 2020 the beginning of a new mindset. Dear Readers, to help you overcome what has arguably been the most intrusive disruption to the American way of life in the last seventy-five years, this blog shares a 3-prong crisis management framework to end the year on a high note despite everything!
Aim to find balance amid chaos ASAP.
Maintaining some balance between professional and personal spheres is usually quite challenging. However, Dear Readers, when in a life-altering crisis, balance is the furthest thing from your mind as all you want desperately is to survive! Yet, it’s in the midst of the chaos that balance is the most beneficial element you can have since it provides an oasis of calm in the same way an eye of a hurricane provides respite amid utter devastation. Dear Readers, wouldn’t you say we can all use a wee bit more of calm right about now!
So, Dear Readers, when a crisis of epic proportion hits you in the face (affectionately called the Big Bad Wolf or BBW here on this blog), you have to take two steps back. While it might feel counterintuitive, Dear Readers, stopping dead in your tracks to look backward is the most productive action to take rather than give in to an unbridled panic that will bring your morale to new lows.
Why is that? Because a crisis never happens in a vacuum. Consequently, Dear Readers, rather than rush blindly into actions that will inevitably worsen the BBW, you want to take the time to understand the underlying yet contributing factors as to have a real shot to eviscerate said BBW. The sooner you accurately identify the source of the BBW, Dear Readers, the easiest it will be to come up with an effective solution. In doing so, Dear Readers, you can achieve balance and find the strength to face life-defining events of any magnitude.
Aim to shift away from resistance.
As human beings, our natural inclination is to resist change. You know it’s true Dear Readers! How many people right now are resisting to wear masks even though Dr. Fauci and Deborah Birx keep telling us that they will save lives! Is that an extreme example? Perhaps! Yet, we do this every day for the littlest changes ever! As soon as we are pushed outside of our comfort zone, we resist and want to retrieve to a state that is a lot more familiar yet inevitably detrimental to our personal growth.
Solution anyone? All you can do is acknowledge that you are uncomfortable. It will prevent the many racing thoughts likely to swirl incessantly in your head and will free your mind to analyze the crisis at hand.
Dear Readers, what do you think about what we’ve discussed so far? Since the beginning of the pandemic, have you been feeling unproductive if not outright depressed? Are you mourning the beautiful life you took for granted as well as the loss of independence (an American core value dear and near to our hearts) the lockdowns have imposed on us all? Are you at the end of your rope? Dear Readers, do not give up! Come back later this week to find out how your life can be meaningful once again despite absolute uncertainty. This blog will explore the last element of the 3-prong crisis management framework that will help you finally find your feet in the post coronavirus era and soar to new productivity heights.
