Less than 30 days to go before we find out who will win the 2020 presidential election. In what looks to be the most bitter election season in decades, this blog wants to remind you, Dear Readers, why you should care about policy, actively engage in your civil duties, and vote this November. Remember, Dear Readers, that your choice can be about liking a candidate but should also be about choosing the person who can lift the nation out of the coronavirus induced recession and help America stay true to her ideals. So, without further ado, let’s get into this!
Welcome to new and returning readers to the Branding24Seven community! This blog is the brainchild of JMStrategy LLC (JMS), a boutique consulting firm that offers strategic solutions to strengthen your brand. The best solutions are the ones that take into consideration public policies (both at the local and federal levels) since, as we have all seen this year, their impact can turn our lives upside down in an instant.
Today, this blog is wanting to explore the most remarkable aspect of the U.S. Constitution, namely that it established a national government to serve the people. That’s what makes America the Land of the Free, Dear Readers! And despite all the constant talks of systemic racism and white supremacy in recent years, this blog continues to advocate that what makes America a beacon of truth is our commitment to freedom that Ronald Reagan so poetically described as a “shiny city upon a hill.” We The People should therefore never take our democracy for granted and should vigorously engage in civic duties even when the words and actions of presidential candidates or elected officials appear to fall short at times.
Dear Readers, this blog is not here to dictate which candidate you ought to endorse this year. That’s your business and nobody else’s, of course! However, a few of you asked this blog to discuss the importance of voting even though “the government can’t seem to get its act together” (as a longtime member of the Branding24seven community puts it)! Before answering this question, Dear Readers, let’s take a moment to identify why America is so very special and a land of opportunity like no other in the world.
U.S. institutions matter because they are the ultimate safeguard your God-given negative rights (life, liberty, property).
Hopefully, we can all agree that our founding fathers conceived the Constitution to protect the American people. Point. Blank. Period! Indeed, these visionary American leaders devised the Constitution to effectuate the lofty objectives of the Declaration of Independence. So, what is the real spirit behind the U.S. Constitution?
This blog firmly believes that the Declaration of Independence is rooted in an unambiguously clear philosophy: to guarantee God-given negative rights life, liberty, property to all Americans. In other words, these rights predate any form of government. They are sacred rights for all citizens to enjoy and are not reserved for only a few chosen individuals.
Since U.S. institutions recognize the existence of these God-given rights, citizens can therefore rely on legal recourse if need be to stop anyone from infringing on said rights. That’s what makes this country such a special place. Of course, Dear Readers, no country has a spotless record when it comes to its history. And like any other nation, America has had stretches of greatness entangled with despicable periods if not outright barbaric ones. But, all in all, there is no other nation that believes in safeguarding your God-given negative rights to this degree, Dear Readers!
Why does voting matter?
So, Dear Readers, why should you vote if you don’t like either candidate for the 2020 presidential election? Why should you vote if you are unhappy with President Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic? Why should you care about local and state elections? Because, Dear Readers, access to God-given negative rights means that We The People are not guaranteed anything from anyone else. All that is guaranteed is that our elected governing body must protect these rights for all regardless of age, race, sex, ethnicity, nationality, disability, mental illness or ability, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, creed, individual political opinions. Don’t you want a say in electing the officials who will work hard to protect your access to said God-given rights?
In fact, Dear Readers, each one of us should expect to be left alone, to have a right to live, to own property, to be free, or entitled to enjoy our civil liberties as we see fit! Ergo this blog invites you to take your civil duties seriously, actively participate in making your voice heard this November and vote. Your life and your future depend on it!
