Your supervisor passed you over the very promotion you have been lusting over for the last two years. Now what? It’s time to shift the framework you use to approach your goals.
So, let’s take a moment of silence to mourn your loss. This blog gets it: you are feeling down, discouraged, and distraught. So, go ahead, let all the frustration out loud and out of your mind. Now, are you feeling better? Hopefully, you are feeling a bit better. Let’s capitalize on that and work on your state of mind.
Always remember, Dear Readers, that success begins in your mind. Instead of wallowing in your current predicament any further, consider all the blessings that your current position has afforded you. Isn’t that success? After all, you are in good health, you are able to take care of your bills, and this blog hopes that you do like your co-workers. So yeah, you have more success than many other hard-working full-timers here in the U.S. let alone in the rest of the world!
Now, how do you move forward? You have to find out what went wrong…. Especially if you have racked mostly great reviews for your personal performance so far. So, have the courage to walk into your supervisor’s office and ask for feedback with an opened mind. You will hear why you were overlooked and perhaps never even considered to be a shoo-in, to begin with as you might have assumed! It is best to hear the truth than imagine things that will undeniably leave you full of resentment and affect your performance in the long run.
Now that you have heard the truth, the time has come to accept it and plan your next move strategically. You and only you, Dear Readers, are the authors of your lives. Whether you are planning to stay or to leave your current company, you must learn new skills.
Of course, experience matters! But, remaining relevant is priceless in the ever-changing world we live in today. For example, in less than six months, you could earn a few leadership credits, master new software, upgrade a skill to an intermediate level (e.g., linguistic, cooking, or even editing).
Whatever it is, do it now, before the end of 2019… If you remain consistent, 2020 will bring you great new and probably unexpected opportunities! There you have it, Dear Readers, this is how you strengthen your personal brand amidst this momentary professional setback.
This blog encourages you, Dear Readers, to make the kind of professional investments that will give you the greatest return: to have a fulfilling career that you love! So, believe that you can own your future, your success, and your destiny…. And don’t let anyone tell you that you are aiming too high! Keep putting in the work consistently and come back often to this blog for more inspiration!
As always, we thank you for taking the time to read this publication. Please share it with anyone currently grappling with the same heartbreaking issue.
